In an effort to not give spoilers and ruin the first book if you haven't read it yet (but seriously why haven't you read it yet, what are you doing with your life?), there's not too much I can say here. I will however say that questions get answered, problems get resolved, and there's a lot of really hot vampire smut.Okay, maybe a lot is a bit of a stretch. Especially since the first book was so smutty. That might be because it was shorter though. This one here is still more than sufficiently smutty, it just didn't feel that way. Probs because Karter wasn't with his Vamps for a good portion of it. And that's not a spoiler. You can infer that from the blurb. I would, however, like to add that the smut felt a little staged this time around. The writing was good, the act itself was still bloody and very Brea Alepou, but it didn't happen organically like in the first book. It felt a little "he's got to sleep with all four of them at some point so let's just put it in" if that makes sense. I'm not mad mind you, and it didn't hinder my enjoyment of the book. But it is something I would like to point out because oftentimes when you are reading romances with this many MC's, it can be hard to make sure everyone gets enough air time AND make it feel natural. First book did it beautifully. Here, it's a bit of a toss-up.I also want to add that this installment is more than a little angsty. Not a problem. Just a fair warning for those of you who feel some type of way about that. I love me some angsty romances so I was chill. The first maybe 30% of this book felt like getting punched in the gut and the pain never receded. Karter has been through a lot. Literally. And while all of them are going through it (especially Weston) Karter is put through the ringer emotionally and physically.This brings us to the story portion. IT IS SO FREAKING GOOD!!! It is exciting, there is action, there is tention, you can't really predict what's about to happen next (except for the HEA cause she's still a romance). But there are casualties and some really hard scenes here. This book is gruesome, it is bloody (obviously), and it is graphic. That's not something I would usually warn a person about but when a book makes the first 5 minutes of Saving Private Ryan look like a stroll through Central Park, a girl's gotta say somethin'. I was still very into it and I love that Brea goes there with this series. I mean who else out there gets annoyed when a "dark" romance ain't all that? Here, home girl said dark and she meant it.It's warranted though. Y'all got to stop kidnapping this werewolf because his vamps will straight up kill you and Braydon will have a smile on his face while doing so.Is this book actually perfect? Soft no. There were a couple of things the first book did better and more than a few grammar errors and typos that normally I would read a book to filth for. But I overlooked it because the story is that good. We got new characters I'm excited to explore. An overarching story that I know is going to be dope and not leave me unfulfilled. This series is a true and good dark romance. And it's poly!? That is epic. If you love vampires, if you love PNR, I can't see you not loving this. And if you want your faith restored in vampires, like mine was, you should definitely pick this up.Tens! Tens across-the-board! Now if you'll excuse me, I have two novellas to cherish because the publication date between this book and the first is a little over a year, so God only knows when we're going to get that third book. Time have passed and the relationship between Karter and his vampires have become fixed, strong and something to depend on. Or so he thought.Turns out, vampires can't communicate, and when nobody wants you, you end up somewhere far worse. And it doesn't matter that one of your boyfriends enjoy slicing you up like a Christmas ham, because you won't enjoy others doing the same.It's bloody, it's messy, it's filled with confusion, heartbreak and friendship. Vampires get jealous, specially if there is a werewolf around the size of a small building. Which is cute as all hells.New characters drop by, several that I loved, and there is never a good time to meet your in-laws.
